More photos

Added photos from Thailand, New Zealand, Greece, and Turkey.  Looking back, it’s amazing how few photos you take when you’re using film.  And, I’m not sure whether I’ve gotten better with time or not, but they were also generally pretty poor quality.  I blame the camera.

Site changes

I’ve given up on flickr. It’s a great tool, but I don’t really want to spend more money to host on a different site. It’s also a somewhat clumsy solution given I only use it to share photos with family - it’s too hard to link them to a blog post. Too many clicks.

So, I’ve made the following changes:

  • Installed Gallery 2.
  • Uploaded photos from our trip to Thailand / Japan.
  • Integrated Gallery with Wordpress.

It still isn’t quite perfect - because of the way it all hangs together, my custom Manji theme won’t display the 800×600 images correctly. So, I need to re-do the banner yet again and adjust the header and footer content image wrappers to fit with the new dimensions.
Edit later in the day:  All fixed.  Everything’s been resized, all is good.

Insights from the trenches

I had an epiphany last week. Truly an insight of the deepest nature.

Workplaces with green walls are evil. The two worst working experiences of my life have both involved organisations with green walls. I don’t know what brings an interior designer to decide that green walls are a good idea, but whatever it is, I think it’s motivated by madness.

I’m not sure which way the causality flows. I don’t know whether the green walls make people unhappy, which in turn makes it a horrible working environment, or whether the green walls are a reaction by the designer to the environment. Either way, it’s a giant flag that something’s wrong.

I originally thought this insight was just my own unique experience. However, I have corroboration. I was sharing this theory with it with someone I work with. Believe it or not, one of their worst worst working environments involved … wait for it … working in a place with green decor.

I’m still not entirely sure that I’m right. However, I have three correlating points, and as we all know, three points makes a trend. So there you go.

Stay away from places with green walls.

Upgraded to 2.1.2

Boring update really - that’s about it.  Still haven’t found the time to write anything yet.  Feels like it’s already been six months since I had leave.
