Flat 166, Media Cafe Popeye

Posted on Saturday 10 February 2007

Japan is an amazing place. An absolutely amazing place. I’m currently sitting in flat 166 in Media Cafe Popeye, Japan’s version of an Internet Cafe. There are computers here. And, that’s about where the similarities end.

I have my own private cubicle with a TV, slippers, a safe, and a variety of headphones. I could have splurged the extra buck for a flat with a reclining chair and a DVD player, but given I only wanted the cubicle to copy some files across from my SD card, I thought that might be overkill.

We’ve just been through Tokyo and are currently staying in Kyoto. We caught the Shinkansen (bullet train) down, and are heading to Hiroshima for a day trip tomorrow. Then, we go to Osaka, have a look over the monestary my grandparents bequeathed, and continue to Fukuoka. And, then we fly home.

Japan is an amazing place. If I could work out how to use this keyboard properly, I could probably even start to write about the things I’ve learned about both Japan and myself. My major accomplishment for the day so far has been in learning how to type an apostrophe. I still haven’t worked out how to do a backslash yet.

There are many things I want to write about. Being a Gaijin. Tokyo Disneyland. The shrines. Maybe when I get a keyboard I can use.
